Is Trauma Holding You Back?

“Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past, it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, body and brain” Bessel van der kolk

Have you had enough therapy to sink a ship, spent thousands of pounds on online courses (and not finished or even started a good percentage of them). Do you keep asking yourself WTF is going on? Why can’t I get it?

Ask yourself this – Can you honestly expect to be able to function normally in life if you’ve have been bent out of shape as a child?

More often than not the answer is no. Our unhappiness, confusion, relational difficulties, career problems, addiction and chronic illness all have roots in our early developmental experience.

It isn’t just as children that we can experience trauma – in fact most of us experience trauma at some point in our lives.

For many this can be hard to accept as the trauma survival strategies of denial, illusion and distraction stop us from engaging with our reality.

Trauma leaves a lasting imprint on our neuro-emotional-physiological systems. Physiology refers to the immune, endocrine, skeletal, circulatory, digestive, respiratory and other essential components of staying alive. Bessel van der kolk (The body Keeps the Score) states that the body bears the full force of the trauma.

Thus maybe you should take a step back. Stop beating yourself up, give yourself a break and allow yourself to heal. You deserve it. You owe it to yourself. I did and it was only when I had dealt with it that I was able to find my purpose and my why and I was able to get out of the gate and see life starting to work for me as opposed to against me.

FEATURE RECAP:
