What is Trauma?

Past trauma and attachment history can make it hard to activate yourself and move towards the things you want in life.

When we talk about trauma we are not just talking about the capital T traumas. If you have depression, anxiety, guilt, shame, over thinking, perfectionism, procrastination, imposter syndrome, drama in relationships, chronic fatigue – these are all trauma symptoms.

SAMHSA describes trauma as:

“An event, series of events or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individuals functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being”

In fact, we all suffer trauma over the course of our lives. We can have tiny micro traumas that we gather and these all add up. A job that is soul destroying can be traumatising. Whenever there is disconnection that can be a traumatic experience.

Why Trauma keeps us from moving forward

What gets in the way of your goals and dreams is an inflexible nervous system caused by trauma. Trauma takes us out of achieving these things because our nervous system is keeping us safe. It doesn’t want us to get hurt again and it is just doing its job.

That’s why we procrastinate, that’s why we won’t go live on Instagram, that’s why we won’t start that business, that’s why we don’t leave the unhealthy relationship and the list goes on. These are all adaptive responses that we have developed to keep us from moving into what our nervous system perceives as potentially harmful to us.

We then get stuck in these dysregulated states and cannot get back into flow state often enough which is where the magic happens.

How can working with me help you?

I’m focused on how to get actual results for my clients with a trauma informed, nervous system informed, polyvagal informed approach.

you will be able to:

  •  Create flexibility with the parts of the nervous system that are stopping you moving forward.

  • Learn how to effectively move back into flow state when you need to.

  • Resource secure attachment. By this I mean remembering the times or relations where you felt really safe and connected and then anchor that in the body.

  • Rediscover your agency (ability to have control over your life direction).

  • Gain clarity around your purpose in life and then move forward effectively with a regulated nervous system.

  • Thrive in all areas of your life including: Work, relationships and finances.

  • Have consistent disconfirming experiences so that your nervous system understands that it’s ok for you to now move forward safely.

  • Create new neurological patterns.

  • Explore gut health and make sure your internal environment is working for you.

  • Create trauma informed goals.

  • Have built in resilience and knowledge to move forward effectively and when you come off track (which we all do) you will know to get back on track.

  • You will understand that you were never broken and that you’re way stronger than you ever realised.
