How To Get Rid Of Fear In 3 Easy Steps

According to a study by the University of Minnesota , fear impacts our thinking and decision-making in negative ways, leaving us susceptible to intense emotions and impulsive reactions. It can also manifest long-term consequences for our health, including “fatigue, chronic depression, accelerated ageing and even premature death.”

Now bear this in mind: You can beat FEAR; you just need to train yourself.

Here are three ways of dealing with FEAR from 3 well known leaders that have learnt how to overcome it:

(1)   Negative Visualisation

Tim Ferriss is a big believer in envisioning and writing down our fears in detail. This shows us that the actuality of these worst-case scenario’s happening is slim at best. But even so we can take charge with ways to prevent or alleviate them.

(2)   Free write

Spiritual author Gabrielle Bernstein says that uncertainty causes a lot of our fear and suggests accessing our intuition to see what comes up. One way to do this is to simply get quiet by meditating and then immediately after to free write. I.E to simply write whatever comes into your head onto paper for 5 or 10 minutes.

(3)   Fear is an illusion

World class athlete Michael Jordan believes any fear is an illusion. “You think something is standing in your way, but nothing is really there. What is there is an opportunity to do your best and gain some success”

According to Susan Jeffers author of the book Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, 90% of what we fear never happens. In reality fear is a paradox and as Jeffers says pushing through fear is less frightening than living with the bigger underlying fear that comes from a feeling of helplessness.
